Michael Baranik

A full-time builder, Mike spoke to the class of Fall, 2001. The following information is taken from the book Custom Guitar Makers.

Mike Baranik's interest in guitar making began when he saw an ad in a music magazine for Roberto-Venn. He attended the school's fall class of 1993 and was immediately hooked on the craft. Upon graduating, he went on to serve as an assistant instructor, which allowed him to take part in a very productive learning environment while developing his own guitar-making skills. Baranik joined the Phoenix Guitar Company in 1994, where he specialized in building custom acoustic and electric guitars and repairing vintage instruments. With his expanding inventory of exotic woods and tools, Mike decided to set up his own shop in 1995.

Mike strives for a simple, elegant style, where the beauty of the wood is the main focus. Each guitar top is individually voiced for balanced tone and volume, and different types of wood are used to maximize the guitar's overall sound. Each guitar is set up for comfortable play with immaculate fretwork and and intonated saddle. A choice of different scale lengths and optional nut/string spacing is available to match the players specific needs.
