BASIC GUITAR REPAIR – TIPS, TRICKS & FIXES: SQUARE JACK – ROUND HOLE

“Square Jack – Round Hole”, is the first in a series of new videos I’ll be making with the help of our instructors at Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery. This series, “Basic Guitar Repair – Tips, Tricks & Fixes”, will consist of short and simple, (mostly) common guitar-making and repair tasks.

Having done this on my student guitar, I knew what I needed to do, in order to make the stereo/square output jack fit in the standard round hole… But the last time I did this, I used the wrong tool and it took me way too long. This time I asked R-V’s Director of Training, John Reuter, if there was a faster way, instead of using one of my smaller needle files. He pulled out a large square file and just went to town, and in a few minutes, he was done. The lesson being, use the right tool for the job, even when something else might work.
